I’m Marcus Aguilar Pauli, and I make films in Loveland, Colorado. I’m studying for my AAS in Video Production & Editing at Front Range Community College. Recently, I got a great chance to work on a project for SARTAC SABE that focuses on self-advocacy and disability awareness. My host site was The Arc of Larimer County, and I created three short films that teach important lessons about speaking up for yourself. These lessons include asking for what you need, changing how you think about disabilities, and knowing you can’t always advocate alone.
I believe stories are a powerful way to share messages. Instead of just talking about what I learned I wanted to show it through relatable characters inspired by real people with disabilities. I call my project “ICU” because I see the person, not the disability.
The SARTAC Fellowship is a year-long opportunity for self-advocates to develop and grow their skills as leaders in the self-advocacy movement. Fellows work with a supporting host organization on policy issues or a project that can help develop their leadership skills.
