Keynote Speaker – Dr. Debbie Fidler
Dr. Deborah Fidler is a Professor in the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Colorado State University (CSU) and Director of the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) Division of the CSU Prevention Research Center. Her research focuses on development in individuals with neurogenetic conditions associated with IDD. Dr. Fidler has served as Editor of the American Journal on Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities and Co-Editor of the International Review of Research in Developmental Disabilities. She is the author of over 100 manuscripts and book chapters focusing on development in individuals with IDD and their families. She is a member of the NICHD Gatlinburg Conference Executive Committee and the NIH DS-Connect Research Review Committee, and she served as Co-Chair of the NIH INCLUDE Working Group of Outreach and Engagement.
Ram Scholars is a new, inclusive higher education program for adults with IDD at Colorado State University. Students enroll in CSU coursework in CSU’s College of Agriculture, attend classes with CSU peers, and receive personalized supports from CSU faculty and peer mentors. The goal of the Ram Scholars program is to provide adults with IDD the opportunity to develop career and technical skills to build career pathways in the field of agricultural sciences and STEM. Coursework and social opportunities for Ram Scholars take place at CSU’s main campus and CSU’s agricultural experiential education campus facilities, side-by-side and in collaboration with college student peers studying either Agricultural Education or Human Development and Family Studies.
